Two websites a year, donated
Every year we give away two websites to nonprofits. The Michael J. Mulligan Memorial Scholarship was one of this year’s.
The fund honors Coach Mike Mulligan, who spent 25 years with HHOOPS in Hatboro-Horsham. Since 2019 it has put more than $100,000 toward 22 graduating seniors heading to college and trade programs — funded entirely by an annual golf outing and community donations.
What the site had to do
A scholarship fund this size runs on volunteer hours. Every hour spent chasing a registration form is an hour not spent raising money. So the brief was less about looking good and more about removing the administrative work that was eating the board’s time.
Four jobs, all of them intake:
Scholarship applications
Graduating seniors apply through the site, with eligibility spelled out before they start — three or more years in HHOOPS, enrollment in an accredited two- or four-year program, and the thing the committee actually weighs, which is resilience and community involvement rather than a perfect GPA.
Donations
A giving page that ties each amount to something concrete. $150 sponsors a tee at the outing, $600 funds a full award at recent levels, $2,000 covers a year of awards. Donors see what their money does instead of guessing.
The golf outing
Two forms, because sponsors and golfers need different things. Registration handles one, two or three golfers or a prepaid foursome, and collects contact details for every player on the team. Sponsorship covers five tiers from $150 to $2,500 and captures the signage text, so nobody is emailing back and forth about what goes on the banner.
March Madness
A bracket pool with three entry tiers, card payment through Stripe, and an ESPN username field that matches each paid entry to its bracket. Entries close automatically when the First Four tips off.
Built on Divi 5
Custom design, no template. The site also runs on our managed hosting, so updates, backups and security are handled and the board never thinks about it.
The part that matters
The fund’s money goes to students. A website that quietly collects applications, registrations and donations means more of the volunteers’ time goes there too.
